Old Wives Tale
In Short
Old
Wives' Tales ranks among
Portland's favorite kid spots.
It's got a colorful playroom and
plenty of dishes to please
finicky palates--grilled cheese,
noodles with Parmesan and cream,
steamed veggies and burritos
among them. Vegetarians can
rejoice in having choices. In
addition to daily specials, much
of the lengthy menu is devoted
to health-conscious and
meat-free dishes. Best bets
include Hungarian mushroom soup,
spinach and potato omelette,
poppy-seed pancakes, guacamole
salad and the salad bar.

Portland City Grill
Steak, sushi and Pan-Asian
cuisine served up with one the
best views in town.
The Scene
On the 30th floor of the Unico US Bank
Tower, a drastic remodel of the
restaurant formerly known as Atwater's
yields an expansive and elegant dining
room. Reclaimed wood beams hung from the
ceiling emphasize a lodge feel. While
the beams serve no structural function,
they soften the long views through the
restaurant and cast a golden and
flattering glow.
The Food
Steak and seafood get an uptown Asian
twist. Lobster pot stickers share the
stage with prime steaks and a dizzying
array of protein options. Portions are
large, and the menu is crowd-pleasing.
Crab cakes with a Key lime beurre blanc
are moist and thick with crab, the sauce
a zingy counterpoint. The sushi is
expertly prepared and the seafood is
impeccable. Food snobs might balk at the
corporate sheen of Portland City Grill,
but the kitchen is able, the service
superb and the view remarkable.
